Digital Identity course overview
This course looks at the broad landscape of digital ID, covering the main reference schemes such as Aadhaar, eEstonia, BankID & Mobile Connect. We explore the importance and different forms of ID, what they are and what they mean for financial services. We focus on how it is affected by global developments, understanding SDGs and financial inclusion issues and explore the impact of digital evolution gaining insight into trust frameworks. The course provides an understanding of ID approaches zooming in on how the roles of authority and use cases varies. We unpack categories of digital ID schemes and extract insights from eID examples from the developing world. The course exposes you to the rapidly emerging category of private ID providers, new models and business cases. And finally, it provides an understanding on the development of a digital identity strategy and the different environments affecting it.
Why do I need a digital identity management course?
This course is designed to meet the knowledge and competency needs of digital finance professionals who are not (yet) experts in the field of digital ID, but who wish to get a comprehensive grounding in the field. It is preferred that students attending this course have an undergraduate degree and/or two years’ relevant work experience. This course integrates well with AML-CFT course in regulatory stream and extreme inclusion courses under customers and products.
On completing the course, students will be able to understand the core language and concepts of the emerging field of digital identity technology, describe and compare both public and private leading models of digital ID provision, assess a scheme against the principles and emerging standards for digital ID and interrogate an ID provider to understand their proposition better.
What is digital identity?
Digital identity is a set of technology and principles designed to create and maintain identity documentation on a digital platform.
What is ID4D?
Identification for Development, or ID4D, is an initiative of the World Bank to help build identification systems for the digital age that help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

DFS, or digital financial services, are any financial services that are available through digital channels, and includes payments, credit, savings, transfers and insurance.

Fintech, or financial technology, refers to any digital technological tools or business models used to support the delivery of financial services.

Financial inclusion is a key part of DFI’s agenda and refers to the goal of ensuring that all people, especially marginalised groups, have access to the financial tools they need.

A virtual classroom is a learning environment that only exists through a digital platform and that allows students to participate regardless of their geographic location. All DFI’s courses are delivered in a virtual classroom.

Option 2: Can we help in getting your company to pay or at least contribute to your tuition?
DFI can assist in opening a conversation with your employer to support your tuition. We can cultivate further interest with them to participate on our programs – bringing multiple employees on will result in corporate discounts and thus lower tuition for you.

Option 3: Referral Program
If your colleagues, friends or family join the course we can open a referral seat for you, which is 100% subsidized by Digital Frontiers Institute. This includes assisting us to create impactful corporate alliances.
Eight successful referrals will result in your foundation course being fully subsidized.
Four successful referrals will result in your specialization course being fully subsidized.
Option 4: Scholarships
DFI offers partial scholarships to qualifying candidates. Our scholarship funders favor scholarship candidates that contribute to tuition themselves. Ideally, Students should contribute at least half of the tuition fee, the higher your contribution the more likely you are to be considered. Tuition can also be paid in manageable installments. Please see below criteria for scholarships.
